Cadiz City is PalengQR-Ph Plus ready – mayor

“Cadiz City is PalengQR-Ph Plus ready,” disclosed Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. during the program launch at the Balay Cadiznon in Cadiz on July 18, said a press release from Cadiz PIO said.

“We are always ready to embrace the digital world,” he said, adding that “this will benefit the people we ought to serve.”

PalengQR-Ph Plus is a joint initiative of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

It encourages cashless transactions using QR Ph, the national standard for quick response or QR codes, a priority initiative under the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion 2022-2028.

The declaration means that Cadiz’s business community, including the micro, small and medium enterprises, are ready for the newest “digital norm” across the globe.

Mayor Escalante urged Cadizeños to gradually develop a mindset that will usher them to become digital natives soonest.

“That’s life now. That’s how technology changes our world…our lifestyle…or even everything we thought that is impossible to happen,” he said.

Councilor John Vincent Escalante, chairman of the Sangguniang committee on finance, also hailed the program as the “future of business transactions” in Cadiz.

The city legislator expressed full support for the program to make Cadiz “beyond ready” for this digital style and even for the future improvements.

Praising Cadiz’s readiness for this PalengQR-PH Plus was BSP Director for the Visayas Anna Clara Oville.

Oville highlighted the benefits of PalengQR-PH Plus, emphasizing the convenience, safety, and cost-effectiveness of digital transactions, along with protection against counterfeit money.

She said with more local governments now adopting the program, “BSP is paving the way for a digital-driven ecosystem that fosters a more inclusive Philippine economy.”

Meanwhile, Cadiz, which dubbed itself as the “Land of Splendid Opportunities” in northern Negros Occidental, is the third local government in the province to welcome PalengQR-PH Plus Program, as per BSP records.

Robert Regodos, city’s head of the economic enterprise division, acted as the “mastermind” in making the said program possible now at the Cadiz City Public Market (CCPM).

Aside from BSP and DILG, the program launching in Cadiz was also attended by representatives from GCash, Landbank, Maya, Palawan Pay, RCBC, Smart  and Globe.*
