Cadiz City dominated the competition in the Abanse Negrense Badminton Tournament Provincial Championship at the Po Hang Badminton Court in Bacolod City on December 10, winning 19 out of the 24 events.
Cadiz was hailed the champion in the following categories – Under 10 Boys Singles, Under 10 Girls Singles, Under 13 Boys Singles, Under 13 Girls Singles, Under 15 Boys Singles, Under 15 Girls Singles, Under 17 Boys Singles, Under 17 Girls Singles, and Under 19 Boys Singles.
Moreover, the Cadiz badminton team was also the champion in the Under 13 Boys Doubles, Under 13 Girls Doubles, Under 15 Girls Doubles, Under 17 Boys Double, Under 17 Girls Doubles, Open Men’s Doubles, Open Men’s Singles, Open Mixed Doubles, Under 10 Boys Doubles, and Under 10 Girls Doubles.
In the Under 19 Girls, Open Women’s Doubles, and the Open Women’s Singles, Himamaylan City nabbed the champion titles. For the Under 15 Boys Doubles, La Carlota City bagged the championship recognition, and Bago City received the championship award in the 40 Up Doubles category.
A total of 201 participants joined the competition, coming from Cadiz City, Sipalay City, Binalbagan, Bago City, Himamaylan City, La Carlota City, San Carlos City, Isabela, Talisay City, Sagay City, Victorias City, Hinigaran, Kabankalan City, and Candoni.
Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Provincial Sports Office head Anthony Carlo Agustin led the opening ceremony of the tournament. Gov. Lacson then gave a brief inspirational message and led the ceremonial serve. Agustin, on the other hand, delivered a short opening remark and welcome address.
The Abanse Negrense Badminton Tournament Provincial Championshipis part of the Grassroots Sports Development Programs of Gov. Lacson that aims to foster the skills and abilities of the Negrense youth in different sports.*
