During the recent Kanlaon Volcano eruption on May 13, the Cadiz’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Team (DRRMT) mobilized its water tanker to conduct flushing operations – clearing ashfall debris along vital roads going to Barangay Yubo, La Carlota City, a press release from Cadiz PIO said.
“This is just a simple act, but it matters amid calamity,” Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said.
“We want Cadiz to always be of assistance in any emergency situation, or even in times of calamity anywhere because we want to help and save lives,” the mayor said.
Escalante said seeing their DRRMT in the middle of action in the face of a crisis is really heartwarming.
“It tells more than a story, but a significant narrative of helping a community and saving lives,” he stressed.
Such action of our DRMMT amid disaster signifies compassion beyond limit in extending help to other local government units (LGUs) in situations of distress, Escalante added.
Aside from flushing operations, Cadiz’s DRRMT also assists in the provision of potable water needs of affected residents by the Kanlaon eruptions by sending a water filtration truck every now and then.*
