A 51-year-old widow died on Tuesday, after a fire hit his house, which was made of light materials, at Hacienda Navidad in Barangay Caduha-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
The victim, a laborer, was reported by the police to have been trapped inside his bedroom when the fire broke out and burned his residence.
Citing initial investigations of the Bureau of Fire and Protection, the Cadiz City police said the fire reportedly started at the kitchen, which was located at the back of the victim’s residence.
Prior to the incident, the victim and his companion, who accompanied him on his way home, had a drinking session in Victorias City.
The value of the damage due to the fire incident was estimated by BFP investigators at P10,000.
According to BFP, the victim died of suffocation, secondary to smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is still being established by BFP probers.*
