A 24-year-old resident of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental prevailed as the grand winner in the 1st Province-wide Visual Arts Exhibition by the provincial government of Negros Occidental, held recently in Bacolod City.

Earl Von Salcedo bested other budding artists from the different local government units of Negros Occidental, bagging an art scholarship grant worth P100,000, courtesy of Linangan Art Residency Program in Cavite.

Salcedo’s painting depicted the “modern futuristic” rice farming. It portrays the Negros “farming” community journeying towards a better future.

It got the judge’s nod, as it related to the tilt’s theme “Abanse Negrense: Reimagining Our Future”.

It took 15 days for Salcedo to finish his 4-foot entry, which dwelled on “surrealism”.

It also inspired him to unleash his limitless imagination. Salcedo stressed he wants to inspire others via painting. He also hopes to propel societal change.

Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. was “beyond proud” with Salcedo’s victory.

“Continue to inspire others” Escalante told Salcedo, stressing “opportunity knocks once, so grab it.”

“Art knows no boundaries… explore its world,” he added.*
