A member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was injured in an armed encounter on Wednesday with remnants of the New People’s Army in Sitio Balao, Barangay Carol-an, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

The encounter took place after soldiers of the 94th Infantry Battalion responded to reports of the presence of seven to 10 armed rebels, who were terrorizing residents in the area, for their refusal to support the latter, disclosed their commander, Lt. Col. Zeigfred Tayaban.

More than 100 families from sitios of Balao, Palawis, Alambihod and Bulusan, all in Brgy. Carol-an, were reported to have been evacuated from their homes, according to the Kabankalan City government

They are presently being attended to by the Kabankalan City government, through its City Social Welfare and Development Office.

Pursuit operations are ongoing against the fleeing rebel remnants, believed to be members of the dismantled Central Negros Front 2.*
