About 210 villagers in Calatrava and Toboso towns, have strongly denounce the continued  violence and atrocities perpetrated by the New People’s Army during two consecutive peace rallies held in Brgy. Cambayobo, Calatrava and Brgy. Bandila in Toboso, Negros Occidental.

This also developed as a self-confessed member of the New People’s Army identified as Unel Cantilla, alias Ka Harry, gave himself up to the 62nd Infantry Battalion and local police in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, and surrendered 357 and 38 caliber revolvers, according to           Col. Michael Samson, acting commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade.

Samson said that Cantilla, 39, of Brgy. Buenavista, Guihulngan City, confessed that he is a Yunit Militia member of the NPA, while working as a “habal-habal (motorcycle)” driver,  and later became the local president of Guihulngan United Habal-Habal Driver’s Association (GUHDA).

Meanwhile, the two consecutive peace rallies of villagers on March 25 and 26, led by their respective barangay captains, Dominador Jubahib of Brgy. Cambayobo, and Eulogio Julom of Brgy. Bandila, ended with the burning of CPP-NPA flags, that  symbolizes their total denouncement of the NPA as a terrorist organization, Lt. Col. Gerard Alvaran, 79th Infantry Battalion commander, said.

Former rebel hitman, Ka Joross, who was  among the speakers in peace rallies, exposed the lies and deceptions of the CPP-NPA, and exposed their tactics in recruiting minors to join the armed struggle, Alvaran said.

“I urge everyone not to get swayed by the deceptive communist propaganda and help us counter their activities,” Alvaran said, in his appeal to the peace rally participants.*
