Bacolod businessman Ricardo “Cano” Tan and Campuestohan Highland Resort, which he founded and turned into a premier tourist destination in Negros, won two prestigious awards at the 43rd People’s Choice Excellence Awards at the Centennial Hall of The Manila Hotel on Sunday.
Tan and his wife, Nenita, were bestowed the People’s Choice Excellence Award for the Best Theme Park and Recreational Luxury Resort in the Philippines, as well as the Dangal Ng Bayan Award, during a grand ceremony.
The People’s Choice Excellence Award, established in 1980, is the Philippines’ leading consumer recognition program that honors outstanding companies, products, and services. The award is based on the following criteria – quality of products and services, contributions to the well-being of Filipino consumers, public opinion through social media surveys, and pricing.
The Dangal Ng Bayan Award celebrates exceptional individual achievers in the Philippines who have made significant contributions in various fields, including business, sports, and entertainment.
Amelia “Amytony” Sunio-Abarquez, the awards chairperson, expressed, “We gather to celebrate excellence, innovation, and dedication in business. We highlight companies that have set high standards and inspired us with their vision and commitment.”
“Every awardee has made meaningful contributions to their industries, showcasing resilience, creativity, and a passion for delivering exceptional products and services. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we are thrilled to honor you,” Sunio-Abarquez said.
These awards are more than trophies; they symbolize excellence and reflect the hard work of individuals and teams pushing the boundaries of what is possible while dedicating countless hours to innovation and customer satisfaction, she said.
“As we celebrate our awardees, let’s remember the stories behind their successes. From breakthrough technologies that transform our daily lives to services meeting our every need, these companies have not only produced remarkable products but also reshaped our expectations and experiences,” Sunio-Abarquez said.
“Let the spirit of innovation and excellence inspire your own endeavors. Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur or just beginning your journey, remember that great achievements stem from hard work, perseverance, and a willingness to take risks. Let us honor the visionaries and trailblazers who strive for excellence every day,” she added.
In response, Tan said “I am humbled to receive these prestigious awards. This recognition is a crowning achievement for my wife, Nita Tan, and me, following more than 10 years of hard work to establish the resort as the crown jewel of tourist attractions in Negros.”
“Our very own Manok ni Cano Gwapo, which stands 115 feet tall, was adjudicated and recognized by Guinness World Records in 2024 as the largest structure in the shape of a chicken in the world,” he said.
“Modesty aside, you will soon hear about more world records for our resort, as we aim to achieve up to five records, with God’s grace, by the end of this year or at the latest, the first quarter of 2026,“ Tan said
He also expressed his gratitude for the award and for the recognition given as the People’s Choice Excellence Awardee for the Best Theme Park and Recreational Luxury Resort in the country.”*
