The distribution of P91 million emergency housing assistance from the National Housing Authority ended yesterday in Cauayan, Negros Occidental, with the distribution of P19.9 million in cash aid to 3,989 families.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said they already given out the entire P91million emergency housing assistance from NHA, although distribution was delayed due to election ban and the National Treasury.

Lacson, accompanied by Board Member Jeffrey Tubola and Mayor John Rey Tabujara, yesterday led the ceremonial distribution of NHA financial assistance of P5,000 each to 3,989 families in Cauayan, whose respective homes were destroyed by the typhoon.

This was the third time that typhoon victims in Cauayan received assistance from the local, provincial and national governments, according to Tabujara.

Similar financial assistance was also given out by the provincial government to typhoon victims in cities of Cadiz, Victorias, Sipalay, Kabankalan, Pontevedra, Ilog and Isabela in previous weeks.

Lacson also said that the provincial government extended P50 million worth of roofing materials to typhoon victims in the province, on top of food packs and other various forms of assistance from private donors.

Owners of partially damaged houses also received financial assistance from their respective local government units, he added.

In Cauayan alone, Tabujara reported that about 18,000 families were affected by the typhoon, with 80 percent having received assistance in terms of housing materials, cash aid and relief goods.

An amount of P25 million financial aid from the national government were distributed to typhoon affected families of P5,000 each in barangays of Guilhungan and Inayawan, on top of P25 million also given out by the local government, he added.

Lacson thanked the recipient LGUs and personnel of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, and other Capitol departments for the successful distribution of financial assistance.

Tubola, on the other hand, called on recipients to help explain to those who were not able to avail of the P5,000 NHA financial assistance, that those covered by it are only owners of destroyed houses.*
