Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday led the opening of the ‘Babae’ Art Exhibit, held in celebration of Women’s Month, which honors and celebrates women through art by showcasing various works inspired by their strength, stories, and contributions to society.
The exhibit features pieces by different artists, highlighting the role of women as sources of inspiration in the creative community while promoting appreciation for their impact on culture, heritage, and everyday life.
The event, which was held at the Provincial Capitol lobby, was attended by the Negros Artists’ Group led by its president, Patty Jane Ku Ong, Board Member Atty. Hope Marey Depasucart, Provincial Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System led by Action Officer Mare June Castro, and members of the Provincial Council for Women, among other guests.
Governor Lacson said that the exhibition and the lives of Negrense women in every sector are reminders that women’s leadership is not only vital but transformative.
“This celebration reminds us that the journey toward gender equality is not only about programs and policies, but about culture, how we see, value, and celebrate the role of women in our society,” he added.
Lacson thanked the Negrense artists for lending their creativity to the celebration, adding that their works inspire reflection, conversation, and appreciation for the strength, wisdom, and leadership of women.
This year’s National Women’s Month is themed “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” supported by the sub-theme “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”
The exhibit at the Capitol lobby will run until March 31.*
