Capitol justifies holding Panaad Festival

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Amid the restiveness of Kanlaon volcano, the Negros Occidental provincial government yesterday justified the holding of the Panaad sa Negros Festival, slated for March 24 to 30.

Recalling that the yuletide season was celebrated in evacuation centers by residents affected by the Kanlaon volcano eruption, Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said “ these are the times that we can bring back the spirit of joy to the people,” noting that life is full of hardships and challenges.

The provincial government of Negros Occidental has allocated P30 million for the annual festivities held at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, including its support to the local government units.

Even in darkness, we need a little spark of light. In sadness, we need a little joy to perk up everybody, Diaz said.

The Panaad Park and Stadium has been identified earlier by the Office of the Civil Defense as among the evacuation sites for about 37,000 La Castellana residents, in case Kanlaon volcano erupts.

During the Panaad sa Negros festival, Diaz said “we want to celebrate the unity of the province and to showcase to the entire country what the province can accomplish if we work together.”

We will try to give you the best show this 2025, hoping that all aspects go well, including the situation with Mt. Kanlaon, he added.

Hopefully, it will be one of the greatest versions of Panaad sa Negros, Diaz further said.

Each of the participating towns and cities of Negros Occidental will be provided P400,000 assistance, and P50,000 each for Lin-ay sa Negros contestants, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson disclosed earlier.*
