Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson announced yesterday that the provincial government of Negros Occidental is giving P120,000 in financial aid to the mother of three siblings who were victims of a brutal attack where the perpetrator used a rock, in Hacienda Badiang, Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City.
The recipient, Ronelyn Bornales, is an overseas Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia.
Among the three victims, the nine-year-old died on the spot, while her two other siblings are still being treated at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, 11 days after the brutal incident on Feb. 7.
Police said the child, her 14-year-old sister, and her 4-year-old brother were alone at home when an unidentified person attacked them, hitting their heads with a rock.
Negros Occidental 3rd district Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez is offering a cash reward of P50,000 for the arrest of the suspect, on top of P25,000 also being offered by Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego. Former Talisay City Vice Mayor Samuel Siote also offered an additional P25,000 reward.
The Silay police earlier announced that they have already a person of interest in the commission of the crime.
The 9-year-old girl was buried on Feb. 15.
Gallego reiterated his call for any witnesses to come forward and help the police to solve the crime.*
