A 26-year-old man was left injured after he was mobbed by angry bystanders following a daylight carnapping incident in Barangay 3, Bacolod City, on Saturday afternoon, January 17.
The suspect, identified only by his alias ‘Stephen,’ a resident of Barangay Bata, was apprehended at around 3 p.m. in Purok Tahong, Barangay 2.
According to initial police reports, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee the scene after attempting to steal a vehicle, but his escape was foiled by a crowd of bystanders who intervened before law enforcement arrived.
Police Station 2 responded to the scene after receiving an urgent phone call from the complainant.
Upon arrival, the duty patrol team and investigators found the suspect in the hands of the public.
Officers reported that the suspect sustained various minor injuries resulting from both his frantic attempt to evade capture and the subsequent physical confrontation with a group of residents.
Medical attention was provided to the suspect before he was transported to Police Station 2 for processing.
The suspect remains under police custody and is facing formal charges for violating Republic Act No. 10883, also known as the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016. An investigation into the full details of the incident is currently ongoing.*
