Cash aid set for Bacolod fire victims

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

The Bacolod City Government is expected to release financial assistance next week to the victims of the fire incident that occurred in Barangay 14 on Tuesday.

This follows a directive from Mayor Greg Gasataya to the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) to expedite the processing of aid after his visit to the evacuation center at Education Training Center School yesterday.

Based on the latest data from the DSSD, the fire affected 71 families, or 289 individuals, including seven job order workers of the city government.

Gasataya said that families with totally destroyed homes will receive P15,000, while those with partially damaged properties will receive P10,000.

Affected renters and sharers are set to receive 5,000 pesos each.

In addition to the cash assistance, the city government will provide GI sheets to help victims rebuild their homes.

While the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Office of the Vice President have already distributed family food packs, the city government unit continues to lead the provision of daily essentials and will deploy a water filtration system to ensure the evacuees have access to clean drinking water. The unit has a capacity of 5,000 liters and can dispense safe, potable water to at least 250 containers, guaranteeing continuous access for the victims.*
