A barangay kagawad who shot his younger brother dead in what appeared to be an act of self-defense, surrendered to the police after the incident in Brgy. Basak, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, on Sunday.
Police investigations show that Basak barangay kagawad Freddie Caballero, 51, tried to pacify his younger brother, Richard, who was drunk and creating alarm and scandal at his residence.
Richard, 49, who was armed with a bolo, hacked his elder brother at his left side while trying to prevent him from proceeding to Sitio Narzone in the barangay, police investigations further showed.
Freddie later took his gun and shot his brother three times, who was declared dead on arrival at the Cauayan District Hospital, police said.
The suspect surrendered to the Cauayan Police Station after being treated for injuries to his left arm by hospital medical personnel.*
