CDO issued for illegal construction on Bacolod creek

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

The Bacolod City Government has issued a Cease and Desist Order (CDO) against an establishment in Purok Santol, Barangay 20, for constructing an illegal structure directly on a creek and within the vital easement area.

The inspection revealed that the structure was built without the necessary permits and is illegally encroaching on the waterway.

Mayor Greg Gasataya said that the construction severely obstructs the natural flow of water, significantly worsening flood risks, especially during heavy rainfall.

The CDO mandates the establishment to immediately stop all construction work and to dismantle the illegal structure.

They are also required to restore any part of the creek that was damaged during their construction activities.

The corporation has been ordered to submit an explanation within 72 hours detailing why administrative, civil, or criminal charges should not be filed against them by the City of Bacolod.*
