Power Watch Negros yesterday issued a statement urging Central Negros Electric Cooperative member-consumers to participate in the referendum on June 24 and 25, as well as July 1 and 2, for the ratification of the Joint Venture Agreement between the Ceneco and Primelectric Holdings Inc., a sister company of MORE Power.
JVA referendum is an exercise of our sovereign rights, stressed Power Watch secretary general Wennie Sancho.
Through this process, the people are able to articulate what they feel about certain political, social and economic issues confronting them, Sancho added.
Sancho said that they will engage in a massive campaign for a Yes vote to the JVA, as he enjoined all Ceneco member-consumers to assert their rights under the 1987 Philippine Constitution.
On the other hand, various sectoral groups and some employees of Ceneco, are opposing the JVA.
Ceneco has 210,000 member-consumers in cities of Silay, Talisay and Bago, Murcia and Salvador Benedicto, as well as Bacolod City, where 70 percent of their members are located.
Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer, who is openly campaigning for JVA approval, said “let the people decide on JVA.”*
