The Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. said that intermittent power interruptions in the cities of Talisay and Silay, and some areas of Bacolod were due to trip-offs.

In a statement issued to the media yesterday, Maria Agnes Claro, CENECO officer-in-charge of the Office of the General Manager, said there were trip-offs in the cross country Bacolod-Silay 69 kilovolt (kV) transmission line and momentary line faults in their distribution lines.

The series of unscheduled interruptions started when the 5MVA power transformer of Lopez substation in Silay tripped off on Aug. 2 due to exposure to a variety of electrical, mechanical and thermal stresses, Claro said.

After a thorough evaluation and testing which lasted for several hours, their technical personnel concluded that the power transformer can no longer be repaired, she added.

“To restore power to Lopez Feeders 1, 2 and 3 (LF1, LF2, LF3), load was shifted to Panaogao Feeder 2 (PF2). Due to capacity issue, a portion of PF2 load was then shifted to Talisay Feeder 1 (TF1),” Claro explained.

She said that CENECO apologizes for any inconvenience caused by these unscheduled power interruptions.

Claro added that the electric coop is in the process of replacing the busted 5MVA power transformer with their 10MVA unit available at their Murcia Substation to address the power and loading capacity problems in the affected areas.*
