Mandalagan, Bacolod City on February 17*

Three-time Palanca Award winner Migs Villanueva returned to Charlie’s Art Gallery at Italia Restaurant, Paseo Verde, Bacolod City for her third solo exhibition.

Titled “A Season of Stories”, the show will run from February 17 to March 17.

Villanueva is known for her signature illustration of children’s faces with just three dots, which she said was inspired by Malang.

“My first painting was of me as a child,” she said.  From the very beginning she has been drawing children with that style since her inspiration were her children and her own childhood. Now her inspiration includes her grandchildren, as well as her nieces and nephews.

She titled her show “Season of Stories” since she has been thinking a lot of stories about a family after losing a family member last year. She also remembers her mother’s childhood especially her Lola who never wore western clothes except patadyong, until her death. So some of her subjects are wearing patadyong in honor of her Lola, Villanueva said.

Aside from the ones at Italia Restaurant, she has had 15 solo exhibitions since she started painting full time in 2000. This includes shows in Manila, Davao, and internationally.

Guests of honor at the opening were Talisay City Mayor Rowena Lizares, lawyer Ruby Depasucat-Su, and former Bacolod councilor Vladimir Gonzalez.*
