The family and siblings of Olympian medalist Carlos Yulo will have a more festive Christmas season, after entrepreneur and former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson announced on October 26 that he will give P1 million to the parents and siblings of Yulo, for them to celebrate the coming holiday season.
In a press briefing at a hotel in Bacolod City, Singson, however, said that the P5 million he offered to Yulo if he reunites with his family, is still there. He wants Yulo to reconcile with his mother, Angelica.
Yulo has been at odds with his family even before winning a pair of gold medals in the Paris Olympics in August.
Singson said he is willing to help him mend fences with his family that will make him an ultimate idol on and off the playing court, noting that “Filipinos are very family oriented.”
I want him to be the role model of a family, he stressed.
Whatever Yulo’s mother did to him, he should forgive her, said Singson, who is bidding for one of the 12 senatorial slots at stake in next year’s midterm elections, running as an independent candidate .
“Honor thy father and thy mother, that’s very important,” the former governor said.
Singson, who was accompanied by his daughter, Ako Ilocano partylist group Rep. Richelle Singson in attending the Bacolod MassKara Festival, said there is no deadline for Yulo to receive the P5 million.
If he reconciles with his mother, he will get the P5 million, the former governor added.
Singson, known as Manong Chavit, is slated to give the P1 million to the family of Yulo in December.
“At least everybody will be happy. That will be my gift to the Filipino sports fan”, the former governor added.*
