CHMSU, 13 Talisay brgys partner for Bottle-Net Life Jacket Project

Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with 13 barangays of Talisay City and established a partnership for Bottle-Net Life Jacket Project on January 24, at the Function Hall, CHMSU Talisay (Main) Campus, a press release said.

Led by project leader Engr. Rey Ramos from the College of Engineering, with Arlene Visitacion, project community engagement officer; Ana Mary Ann Pancho, director for alumni affairs; Cherryl Salaya, and Engr. Dominic Mercurio, Ma. Lourdes Hagos, Lylanie Rivera, and Perseus Bravo from the College of Industrial Technology, the “Bottle-Net Life Jacket: A Personal Floatation Device for Every Family” was launched to create an alternative to the commercial life jacket that can be too expensive for Filipinos, especially those living along coastlines. The project aims to promote disaster risk reduction and resiliency in the community.

With the MOA, CHMSU and the partner barangays signified to ensure sustainable community involvement and linkages for the project and other programs on different areas such as Training and Livelihood, Environment, and Gender and Development.

Andrew Eusebio Tan, vice president for research and extension, represented the University during the ceremony, while barangay captains and deputies represented their respective barangays.

Kagawad Ricardo Arellano and John Michael Pajes (Zone 2), Kagawad Nancy Garcia (Zone 3), Kagawad Beth Abrera and Kagawad Ligaya Besa (Zone 5), Hon. Sulpicio Verdeflor Jr. (Zone 7), Kagawad Malou Hechanova (Zone 8), Hon. Jojo Parreno (Zone 11), Hon. Wilfredo Hinolan (Zone 12), Hon. Rogelio Amar (Zone 14), Hon. Daryl Abaring (Zone 14B), and Barangay Secretary Marjorie Notchite (Zone 16) were present.

Roger Ray Manzano, director for extension and community services; Armando Reosura, director for IPMO; Leah Fernandez, director for research and development services; Rhoderick Samonte, director for external affairs; Leizl May Tortogo, dean, college of education; Engr. Grace Gerona, dean, college of engineering; Atty. Juliet Pasustento, chief administrative officer – finance division; Melanie Porquez; Engr. Roy Gerona; and Engr. Michael Forton joined the project proponents as witnesses during the signing.*
