In response to the urgent needs of communities in the Fifth District of Negros Occidental, CHMSUyanihan: Operasyon Bangon Quinto Distrito delivered clean drinking water, relief packs, clothing, and hot meals to residents of La Castellana on November 11, a press release from CHMSU said.
The initiative, led by Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU), is scheduled to return on Sunday, November 16, extending its relief efforts to the neighboring towns of Isabela and Moises Padilla, which were severely affected by the recent typhoon.
During the initial deployment, CHMSUyanihan distributed 195 relief packs—each containing two kilograms of rice, instant noodles, and ready-to-eat canned goods—alongside 1,190.99 liters of drinking water, 35 sacks of clothing, beddings, and children’s plush toys.
In partnership with Art Relief Mobile Kitchen and the Office of SB Member Christine Thel Geollegue, volunteers also prepared and served “ginisang monggo with chicken,” good for 1,500 servings. The meals were distributed to families in evacuation shelters and nearby households.
The aid reached two evacuation centers and a nearby community in Barangay Robles, the largest barangay in La Castellana.
At the Bahay Silangan Fastrac shelter, 168 households—approximately 300 individuals—received food packs, water, clothing, and hot meals. Meanwhile, 71 households, or 279 individuals, at the Velez Malaga Elementary School shelter received water and clothing.
A total of 43 CHMSUyanihan volunteers, including students, faculty, staff, guidance counselors, alumni, and community partners, took part in the operation.
Launched on November 6, CHMSUyanihan has established drop-off booths for in-kind donations at SM City Bacolod, Savemore Fortune Towne, and the guardhouses of CHMSU’s Alijis, Binalbagan, Fortune Towne, and Talisay campuses.
Cash contributions remain open via GCash (account number 0938-658-0015, under the name FCUSG Treasurer Chrisha Joy Natividad).*
