As the holiday festivities peak, the Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) has issued reminders to ensure residents remain safe and healthy through the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
CHO head Dr. Grace Tan advised the public to avoid firecrackers as it can cause pulmonary problems like asthma, and can cause unnecessary fires, noting that the city has recorded zero firecracker-related incidents since monitoring began on December 19.
She also urged everyone to be careful with toy trumpets that contain toxic inclusions, specifically those who do not have Department of Trade and Industry Certifications.
“We have to maintain a safe environment and a safe celebration for everyone,” Tan said.
To combat foodborne illnesses, she emphasized that improper reheating and leaving dishes in open spaces at unsafe temperatures can trigger bacterial growth and gastrointestinal problems.
Tan further urged residents to ensure their water comes from potable, reliable sources and to thoroughly wash all ingredients during food preparation.*
