Church to lead 40th EDSA anniversary march

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

The Catholic Church will lead a commemorative march in Bacolod City on February 25 to mark the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

The One Negros Ecumenical Council, the Clergy for Good Governance, and the TAMA NA! Negros (Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado) network have joined forces to lead the mobilization.

Catholic schools belonging to the Catholic Education Association of the Philippines have committed to join the mobilization.

The coordinated effort follows a pastoral letter from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines encouraging all dioceses to honor the historical role of the Church in the peaceful uprising in 1986.

Diocese of Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon will preside over a Holy Mass at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon before the start of a procession on Wednesday.

Religious leaders from the Dioceses of Kabankalan and San Carlos have also confirmed their participation in the church-led event.

At least 5,000 crowds are expected to join. Participants are encouraged to wear white as a symbol of their collective stand against corruption and poverty.

The march will conclude at Gonzaga Street as a prayerful demonstration of faith-based civic action.*
