The One Negros Ecumenical Council (ONE-C) is organizing a protest rally on September 21, calling on the public to join them in an indignation march against government corruption and what they describe as “anomalous and fraudulent projects.”
The council, composed of various church leaders, stated in a formal invitation that the protest is a direct response to recent controversies involving flood control and infrastructure projects.
The invitation highlights the negative impacts of bureaucratic corruption on Filipinos, who have “suffered more from floods and consequences of calamities.”
The rally is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with an assembly at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon, followed by a march to the Bacolod Public Plaza Replica for the main program.
The invitation, signed by church officials including Most Rev. Gerardo Alminza, Rt. Rev. Virgilio Amihan Jr., and Bishop Fely Tenchavez, request all denominations, schools, and communities to participate.
The goal of the event is to “proclaim the truth, justice, peace, and integrity of creation” and demonstrate that the people are “vigilant to the unjust system.”
On September 21, the 53rd anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law, a nationwide protest will take place around various freedom parks across the country, where more than a thousand students, advocates, and activist groups are expected to join and mount their anger on corruption.*
