The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting the Department of Education Division of Bacolod to provide and assign school nurses to all primary and secondary schools within the jurisdiction of Bacolod City to address and prevent health issues caused by rising temperature this summer season.

The resolution authored by Councilor Claudio Puentevella said the Department of Education is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for ensuring access to, promoting equity in, and improving the quality of basic education and is the main agency tasked to manage and govern the Philippine system of basic education.

It has come to the attention of the members of the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Bacolod that there have been several incidents of students, teachers, and other staffs of the Department of Education, Division of Bacolod who have experienced fatigue and heat stroke due to rising temperature caused by the dry and summer season, which if left unattended, may lead to adverse health effects and even fatal injuries, it said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said that one of their problems is to convince nurses to work for the city due to low compensation.

So, they are considering increasing their compensation or allowances to entice them to work for the city, he said.*
