A resolution requesting Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC) to furnish the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City its proposed plan of action relative to the frequent and unscheduled power outages that CENECO is currently experiencing, and its course of action to mitigate the same before it takes over the management this August, was approved by the SP Wednesday.
The resolution authored by Councilor Claudio Puentevella said that last June 3, 2023, a joint venture agreement (JVA) was entered into by Prime Electric Holdings Inc., a corporation duly represented by its CEO and president Roel Castro, and Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO), and that on Nov. 13, 2023, National Electrification Administration (NEA) granted its conditional consent to the proposed JVA between NEPC and CENECO.
Bacolod residential consumers of CENECO have experienced numerous instances of power interruption for the past weeks. In several instances, most power interruptions were unscheduled which has caused inconvenience to residential consumers, it said.
The frequent power interruption causes economic disruptions, which can affect business productivity in the City of Bacolod, the resolution said.
In an interview, Ceneco general manager Arnel Lapore explained that CENECO’s problem can be solved through the JVA with NEPC, which will invest P2.1 billion in infrastructure and facilities once it takes over.*
