BY ADRIAN P. NEMES III

The mitigation of flood occurrences in Bacolod City will be among the priorities of engineer Aladino Agbones, whose appointment as City Engineer was unanimously concurred in by members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

Agbones told the DAILY STAR that the constant flooding in the city needs to be addressed through proper coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways.

He said that what happened before was that the DPWH would repair the drainage system in the national road only since the local roads are under the CEO.

Agbones said the DPWH has submitted a master drainage plan to the CEO to harmonize the projects of the two agencies, adding that the issue of flooding could not just be set aside.

Last June, at least 14 barangays of Bacolod were inundated when heavy downpour equivalent to three days of normal rains had occurred.

Agbones added he will continue the projects that are already in the pipeline and will ensure their swift implementation.

Agbones started his career in public office in 1978 as a casual employee. He became an engineering assistant and eventually the assistant of former city engineer Billy Aguillon.

When Aguillon retired last year, Agbones became the acting city engineer.*
