City won’t increase MassKara subsidies

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Subsidies for contingents participating in the MassKara Festival 2025 will either decrease or remain at the same level as last year, according to Councilor Jason Villarosa, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on tourism, who said “it’s either going to decrease or remain the same as last year but will not increase.”

The Bacolod City government shoulders the subsidies for major events, with each participating barangays receiving P700,000 for the street dance and arena competition, while participants for Electric MassKara receive P300,000.

He added that funding for the school category may be sourced from the Special Education Fund (SEF), depending on the decision of the Local School Board.

Ten barangays and seven schools have confirmed their participation in the street dance and arena competition, with more than 10 groups expected to join the Electric MassKara.

Meanwhile, the Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc. will launch the official festival logo, venues, and other details on September 5.*
