Five suspected New People’s Army rebels waylaid and shot a livestock buyer dead on Aug. 7 in Sitio Kamao, Brgy. Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

The victim was identified by the police as Rodel Nobleza, alias Peter, of the place. He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

Initial police investigations show that the victim, who was driving a motorcycle along with two minors, was flagged down by a group of armed men, all armed with high-powered firearms.

After ordering the two minors to disembark from the black 125 Kawasaki motorcycle, Nobleza was shot by the armed men, who immediately fled toward the sitio’s hinterlands.

The lives of two minors were spared by the armed men, police said.

Lt. Col. J-Jay Javines, 79th Infantry Battalion commander, yesterday debunked claims that the victim, who is engaged in buying livestock, was a military informant.*
