The City Legal Office (CLO) Enforcement Team has officially served notices to vendors at the ‘Asenso Market’ in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City mandating the voluntary removal of their structures within ten working days.
CLO Spokesperson Atty. Vanesa Encabo said that they issued the notice to 31 stalls identified as illegal structures, but only 25 received the copy as 6 were already closed.
Encabo said that if they want to continue the operation, the barangay must request another special permit from the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
The enforcement team will return to the area on March 10 to ensure that the vendors have already vacated the area, and any remaining structures will be demolished.
Councilor Celia Matea Flor noted that vendors were originally granted a temporary special permit for the Christmas season and suggested that the barangay look for a different area.
Reports indicate that the vendors have been paying a P2,000 monthly rental fee to the barangay.
Meanwhile, Barangay Alijis Chief Deogracias De La Vega insisted that the market is not a disturbance and provides livelihood to vendors.*
