The Bacolod City Legal Office launched an investigation into two regular employees of the Bacolod City Treasurer’s Office following reports of unauthorized tax collections at local entertainment establishments during night time.
City Legal Officer Atty. Karol Joseph Chiu said on Monday that a complaint was initially lodged by a business operator with the City Mayor’s Office, before being referred to his department for validation.
According to Chiu, his office is currently in the process of gathering data and evidence to substantiate the claims.
Chiu reminded the public and local entrepreneurs that all official business payments and taxes must be settled directly at City Hall.
He clarified that any legitimate inspection of business establishments must be conducted by an authorized joint inspection team.
He added that government personnel are not authorized to collect such fees on-site, especially outside of regular office hours.
Evidence currently under review includes CCTV footage and other documentation gathered by investigators.
While the probe is ongoing, show-cause orders have not yet been issued, and the employees involved remain active in their positions.*
