A motorcycle driver died, while three others were injured as a result of a collision with a dump truck loaded with sand and gravel, yesterday at the ecotourism highway of Sitio Buli in Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
One of the victims identified as Ruben Verbo, 44, of Ayungon, Negros Oriental, was declared dead on arrival at the San Carlos City Hospital, police said.
Investigations of the San Carlos City police showed that the 10-wheler Fuso dump truck driven by Wenny Boy Nagor, of Brgy. Kumaliskis, Don Salvador Benedicto, suffered a mechanical malfunction of its brakes while negotiating a downhill portion of the highway.
As a result, the dump truck hit four motorcycles that were traveling in the opposite direction, police said.
Also injured were Richie Dayday, who was riding on the motorcycle of Verbo; Germano Mallari, of Bantayan, Cebu, who was driving a black Kawasaki Versys motorcycle; Edwardo Aceñas of Brgy. Hunob, Dumaguete City, the driver of a brown Kymco 400 motorcycle.
Mallari and Aceñas were reported to have suffered minor injuries, while it was not reported by the police whether Trifon Paltingca, who was driving a Green Kawasaki Versys 650, of Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental, was unhurt.
Nagor, 24, is now under the custody of the San Carlos City Police Station.*
