Bacolod now has a total of 302,168 voters, as of July, and City Commission on Elections Officer Kathrina Trinio-Caña said the number may rise as the registration ends on September 30.

Caña said the new number of registered voters recorded by the Bacolod City Comelec included those who were earlier subjected to opposition but were later approved by the Election Registration Board.

She said that of the 10,150 applicants for voter’s registration in the city, 222 were opposed although the complaints against 145 applicants were withdrawn after they were able to prove that they are residents of Bacolod, and only five were disapproved.

Caña also said they will have a voter’s registration today at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central, SM City mall on August 14, 28 and 30, and at Robinsons Place on August 20 and 21.

Exclusive registrations will be held at the Mansilingan Agro Industrial High School for residents of the barangay and nearby areas on August 13, while the University of St. La Salle will host a special list-up for its students on August 27.

Caña reminded those who will apply for voter’s registration to bring photocopies of their identification cards, adding that Comelec will ensure that minimum health protocols are strictly observed during the activity.

She reiterated that the voter’s registration will only be until September 30 and the national Comelec is no longer keen on extending it since the filing of the Certificates of Candidacy will be held first on the first week of October.*
