Comelec expects BSKE postponement, awaits PBBM signature

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) confirmed yesterday the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is expected to sign the measure postponing the BSKE on August 12 at 2 p.m., as per the advice of Malacañang.

The election, originally scheduled for December 1, 2025, is proposed to be moved to the first Monday of November 2026 in a proposal approved by Congress.

In addition, the postponement would also extend the terms of current barangay and youth officials from three to four years.

The Chairman explained that postponing the BSKE would give the COMELEC more time to prepare.

Meanwhile, the 10-day voter registration in the city kicked off on August 1 at SM City Bacolod.*
