A total of 1.580 million people have registered as voters from January until the second week of April, an official of the Commission on Elections said.
Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said women comprise the majority of the registrants.
“Voter registration update: Jan. 4, 2021 to Apr. 15, 2021 total 1,588,432 (Male 737,890 Female 850,542). More women registered,” she said in a Twitter post. “We have 58,222,176 voters as of January 21, 2021. More women voters than men.”
Voter registration is ongoing in areas that are under the general community quarantine or modified GCQ status.
All Offices of Election Officers (OECs) in cities and municipalities are ready to accept applications for voter registration, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays.
The Comelec is looking to register some four million new voters for next year’s national and local elections.
