As the election period starts today, the Commission on Elections advised candidates for the synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections to file their certificates of candidacy early.
Don’t wait for the deadline, suggested by Provincial Comelec supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria.
The filing of certificates of candidacy for the barangay and SK elections officially starts August 28 until September 2.
Ananoria also encouraged candidates to consult a lawyer, or visit the nearest office of the COMELEC before filling up the COC to prevent problems.
He also expects the arrival of the accountable forms, ballots, and paraphernalia that will be used for the election, on the first week of September.
Joint COMELEC-PNP-Army checkpoints are also up for establishment along the main highway of every town and city in Negros Occidental, in line with the implementation of the gun ban.
Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, has a total of 2,014,725 registered voters and 660,709 Sangguniang Kabataan registrants for the BSKE 2023 polls.
The SK voters will cast their votes in 12,487 established precincts, while regular voters will go to 12,674 established precincts and 5,704 clustered precincts in 662 barangays all over the province.
Bacolod City, with 61 barangays, has 340,098 regular voters and 100,446 youth voters.*
