Community rescue team activation pushed

BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting Mayor Alfredo Benitez to study the possibility of activating the Community Emergency Rescue Team (CERT) under the Office of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) covering the 61 barangays in the City of Bacolod.

The resolution authored by Claudio Puentevella said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the start of the monsoon season and the onset of La Nina, may increase the likelihood of above normal rainfall condition and the entry of moderate to severe tropical cyclones, that may cause heavy floodings, landslides and other emergencies.

The CERT is composed of trained volunteers covering the 61 barangays in the City of Bacolod and is responsible for safety, survival and hazard-free environment, it said.

Activating the CERT will help the barangays prepare for all kinds of emergencies and assure the public that they can depend on highly trained pool of volunteer emergency responders in times of crisis, the resolution added.*
