Global services and technology leader and Philippines’ largest private employer Concentric launched its Turo Guro Program last year and is targeting to expand it to 40 schools, which include two from Bacolod City, before the year end.
The Concentrix Turo Guro Program is a project that aims to train teachers in the Philippines for free to equip them to better upscale their students, Amit Jagga, EVP and Chief Business Officer of Concentrix Philippines, said during an interview at the unveiling of its newest site in the country, Bacolod AIU, last Wednesday.
The new site is one of two that Concentrix operates in the city. Its first site, Concentrix San Parq, started operations in Bacolod City in 2007.
Jagga believes that one of the biggest challenges from the education perspective, is how to raise the bar when it comes to technology, communication skills, and cognitive ability that they develop in people through the educational system. So they need to continuously involve their partners in the academe to improve in these areas.
Hanica Jane Pacis, Concentrix regional marketing director, said they initiated the Turo Guro Program, a free nationwide English upscaling and business ethics training, and piloted it last year in three schools located in Clark, Cebu and Davao.
Pacis said this is additional training for English skills and business ethics for teachers in secondary schools so they will be able to pass it on to their students.
Concentrix Bacolod AIU site director John Robert Planta said the training may be held four hours a day during the weekends depending on their agreement with the schools.
Meanwhile, the launch event called “Sweet Byte” Wednesday demonstrated the combination of Concentrix passion for innovation and Bacolod’s vibrant culture.
With Concentrix total investment of P1.02 billion in the Bacolod AIU site, it currently occupies four floors spanning 8,246.40 square meters in the building, including a game-changer “active zone”, gym, recreational areas, wellness and sleeping lounges among its tailor-fitted staff amenities. The workplace caters to approximately 1,800 game-changers, with the common areas also accessible for over 1,300 additional team members located in the other Concentric site, Bacolod SanParq.
The Concentrix Bacolod AIU team currently supports customer experience, technical support and sales work. Along with the other existing site in Bacolod SanParq, Concentrix’s Bacolod workforce is the partners-of-choice for multiple clients in the communications, travel and technology sectors.
Planta and Jagga led the launch activities along with Bacolod Councilor Claudio Puentevella and businessman Johnny Uy.
Concentrix Philippines currently operates 50 sites in 20 cities nationwide, with more than 100,000 game-changers. As a vital contributor to the country’s economy and leading a cross-sectoral collaboration movement called “Filipinnovation” promoting the nation as a tech-solutions destination, Concentrix continues to demonstrate its leadership and innovation, as part of the 2024 Asia CEO Circle of Excellence for Most Innovative Company and Technology Company of the Year, as well as Company of the Year Grand Winner -recognizes for its financial success, governance, social commitment, pioneering achievements, and recognitions received.
