The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking the construction of a multi-purpose building that will serve as the Bacolod City Museum/Auditorium.

The construction project in Barangay Alijis, near the Bacolod City Government Center will serve as a memorial of the historic events, culture, artistry, and resourcefulness of the Negrenses in the early days.

DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno said the P213-million project funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2020 and 2021 involves the construction of a two-storey museum/auditorium with a floor area of approximately 4,800 square meters.

An initial amount of P163 million was released in 2020 for the construction of the now halfway completed Phase 1 which includes the design and building of the main structure, while Phase 2, with an allocation of P50 million, will be for the provision of architectural features.

Bueno also mentioned that as a green building certified project, Bacolod Museum will be sustainable, using environment-friendly and energy-efficient materials and facilities.

“Soon to become a major tourist attraction in Western Visayas, the museum is expected to usher in a brand-new era of cultural preservation in Bacolod as it contributes to the education, cultural, and tourism goals of the city, which will also help revitalize the province’s economy,” Bueno said.*
