Construction worker drowns in Bago river

• RICHARD T. CABALLERO JR.

A 51-year-old construction worker who was missing for 4 days was found lifeless on Tuesday at Ma-ao River, Purok Kaag-huan, Barangay Ma-ao, Bago City, Negros Occidental.

The police investigation revealed that according to the witness who discovered the cadaver, he was at the river to fish when he saw the victim among large rocks in the middle of the river, with no signs of life.

He reported the discovery to the authorities, who found that it was disclosed by the brother of the victim that on the evening of October 18, he and the victim had a drinking session at their house.

At the end of their session, the victim asked permission to go home to their mother’s house, but the brother tried to stop him from leaving, warning him not to go since he had to cross the deep river, where the current was strong due to the rain.

However, the victim insisted and left, and was reported missing the next morning.

According to the police, the victim might have drowned while he was crossing the river.

The cadaver of the victim was already in an advanced stage of decomposition and was brought to a funeral parlor and was subjected to a postmortem examination.*
