Consumer alliance to hold GA

The proposed Alliance of Concerned Consumers in Electricity and Social Services (ACCESS) will be addressing four major concerns during its 1st ACCESS General Membership Assembly (AGMA) in October, according to a press release from the group.

Ad Hoc Committee chairperson Wennie Sancho said the four major concerns are issues on rice and sugar importation, and public services like water and electricity, which are the main agenda of the assembly.

The Alliance will write a formal letter to the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) on the clamor of the stakeholders in the sugar industry on the excessive volume of imported artificial sweeteners like HFCS coming into the country. This substance is hazardous to the health of the consumers and will also weaken the sugar industry.

ACCESS will also inquire from the Department of Agriculture(DA) as to when they are going to implement the often-repeated pronouncements on reducing the price of rice, and to answer the stockpile of accumulated rice in our seaports and container vans.

On local concerns, the Alliance will write a letter of request to the Negros Power to furnish the Alliance with a comprehensive report on the impact or damage done by the recent typhoon, particularly on its infrastructure and equipment that had caused the unplanned power outage.

The Alliance will also request from Negros Power on the current state or condition of CENECO’S equipment transformers and substations to allay fears of power outages in the future as these concerns will take the centerstage in the forthcoming ACCESS-AGMA.

The Alliance will also request BACIWA-PRIMEWATER to explain to the consumers regarding its dismal failure to provide adequate water supply, as well as its turbid water issue and inefficient services.*
