A coalition of empowered consumers and church workers will be launching the Alliance of Consumers in Northern Negros (ACNN) today in Bacolod City.
The ACNN general assembly is being assisted by ACCESS and Power Watch Negros Advocates. This forum is in preparation for the electricity consumers in Northern Negros to face the challenges of the power industry particularly on the projected shortfall of electricity in the Visayas including Negros Island Region as announced by NGCP and DOE according to Wennie Sancho, ACCESS president, said in a press release.
One of the crucial topics to be discussed in the general assembly is the proposed partnership between Negros Power and NONECO which aims to strengthen power infrastructure and services. This partnership promises infrastructure upgrades, reduction of outages and more reliable and affordable electricity for over 200,000 consumers from E. B. Magalona to San Carlos. This would bring in technical expertise, capital innovation and continuous consumer consultation to ensure that the interests of the consumers are protected.
The guest speaker will be Arnel Lapore who will be inducting the elected and appointed officials of ACNN.
Sancho said that ACNN is not just an alliance but a movement towards a brighter future for Northern Negros where every electricity consumer has a voice and a choice in our journey towards a more resilient and consumer centric power sector through an education and awareness program.*
