A rookie policeman is now locked up in jail after he allegedly shot his fellow officer dead on May 31 at Camella Subdivision in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City.

The victim, a police non-commissioned officer with a rank of police staff sergeant, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, according to the police.

On the other hand, the suspect, identified as Patrolman Alvin Fernandez Rios, a 26-year-old member of the Iloilo Police Provincial Mobile Force Company, was immediately arrested by policemen responding to the shooting incident.

PMaj. Eugene Tolentino, Bacolod City Police Office Station 8 commander, disclosed that the motive of the shooting incident may have been triggered by jealousy.

Tolentino said that the victim succumbed to two gunshot wounds.

Recovered from the scene of the incident were a 9mm pistol with four magazines containing ammunition, and two fired cartridges.

Initial police investigations showed that the incident took place in the bedroom of the house owned by Rios and his former live-in partner.

The suspect reportedly went to visit their six-month-old son when he saw his former live-in partner and the victim in the bedroom, police said.*
