Cop involved in Valladolid murder-suicide

A police officer reportedly shot himself after killing his live-in partner on Thursday night in Barangay Saguabanwa, Valladolid, Negros Occidental.

The policeman, a certain Larry, with a rank of police master sergeant, and his partner, a 33-year-old widow, were both declared dead on arrival at the Valladolid District Hospital, according to the police.

Initial investigations of the Valladolid Police Station disclosed that the 40-year-old police officer, whose identity they withheld and his partner, figured in heated arguments prior to the incident.

The police officer reportedly used his service firearm to shoot his partner several times, who succumbed to gunshot injuries, including a fatal wound in the head, investigations of the Valladolid Police Station further showed.

After shooting his partner, the policeman shot and killed himself. He succumbed to gunshot wounds at the lower chin and right temple, according to the town police.

A 9mm pistol with a magazine containing nine ammunition, three empty shells and three slugs of a 9mm pistol, and a cellular phone believed to be owned by the policeman, were recovered from the scene of the incident.

The motive of the incident is still being established by the Valladolid Police Station.

Mayor Enrique Miravalles, in an interview with Bombo Radyo, disclosed that an hour-long negotiation was initiated by the Valladolid police before the incident took place.*
