Cop killed during Bacolod drug bust

A police officer died after being shot during a buy-bust operation along Alijis Road, Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, late Thursday night.

Police Master Sergeant Romulo Galvez, assigned to the Police Station 9 Drug Enforcement Team, was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to hypovolemic shock secondary to a gunshot wound on his right thigh.

The incident occurred in front of Jade Court II, when a 32-year-old drug suspect allegedly drew a .45 caliber firearm and shot the officer during the operation.

The operating team apprehended the suspect and recovered five sachets of suspected marijuana with an estimated value of P48,000.

Also seized were the .45 caliber pistol with five live rounds, the marked money, and a coin purse.

Police Regional Office Negros Island Region Director Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay expressed condolences to the bereaved family and directed units to provide necessary assistance.

“This is a sad day, and with heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of PMSg Galvez who gave his life in the line of duty. His courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Ibay said.

Charges for murder, illegal possession of firearms, and violations of Republic Act 9165 are being prepared against the suspect.* TMD

ASSISTANCE

Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya extended financial assistance to the family of the late PMSG Romulo Galvez, a Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) operative who died in the line of duty, a press release from BCPO PIO said.

The Mayor visited the BCPO and met with OIC, PCol Eugene Rebadomis, to honor the heroism and service of the fallen police officer. Together, they proceeded to the family to personally convey condolences and provide support.

PMSG Galvez is remembered for his dedication and sacrifice in service to law enforcement and the community.

The Bacolod City Police Office expresses its sincere gratitude to Mayor Gasataya for his immediate assistance and compassion to the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, Rebadomia together with the entire Bacolod Police Force is saddened by the passing of Galvez, a snappy warrant officer and operative, who gave his life in the performance of duty in bringing a criminal into justice. A true warrior who at the middle of the night while others were asleep PMSG Galvez was out in streets fighting for criminals who is a notorious drug dealer, Akyat Bahay suspect and hold-up suspect always armed and victimizing innocent people.

Galvez was previously assigned in Sulu before settling in Bacolod City Police Office as a former member of SWAT, before taking the challenge as warrant and drug operative he received many commendations and medals giving pride to BCPO.*
