Cop posthumously awarded medal for bravery

The Police Regional Office- Negros Island Region has bestowed the late PMSg Romulo Galvez, who was killed in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City, with the Medalya ng Kadakilaan (PNP Heroism Medal) for his exceptional bravery and service to the country.

Galvez, an operative of the Drug Enforcement Unit of Bacolod City Police Office Station 9, died after being shot by the 32-year-old suspect, who was the subject of the buy bust operation on April 9.

During the buy-bust operation, the police said they also recovered P48,000 worth of suspected dried marijuana leaves and a .45 caliber pistol with ammunition.

The suspect in the killing of Galvez was reported by the police to have also died on Saturday, while being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, regional police director of Negros Island Region, in a statement, said that aside from the medal, the PNP will also extend all necessary assistance, in recognition of his courage, commitment, and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Ibay added that the PRO-NIR honored the heroic deeds and legacy left behind by Galvez, which will serve as an inspiration to his colleagues in the police service.*
