A senior citizen, who reportedly went amok, was shot and killed by a police officer, whom he allegedly hacked with a bolo yesterday, in Brgy. 13, Victorias City, Negros Occidental.
The suspect identified by the police as Hernani Pimentel, 66, died, while being treated at the Ika-ayong Lawas Foundation Hospital in Victorias City, police chief Lt Col. Eduardo Corpuz said.
Initial investigations of the Victorias City Police Station showed that Pimentel, who was reported to have been suffering from a nervous breakdown, hacked PMSg Valentin Cerdeña, with a bladed weapon.
Corpuz yesterday said that Cerdeña, who tried to negotiate with Pimentel to calm him, was hacked, instead.
Fortunately, Cerdeña’s gun shoulder holster containing magazines, was hit and that spared him from injuries.
Corpus said that Cerdeña, who is commander of the Villa Victorias police sub-station, retaliated by shooting Pimentel, to defend himself from further attack.
The incident took place after Cerdeña responded to the report that a man went amok in the place.
Corpuz said Cerdeña was placed under restriction at the city police station headquarters, pending further investigation.
A bolo was recovered from the scene of incident, he added.*
