Cops get medals for successes against cigarette smuggling, illegal drugs

Twelve police personnel actively involved in anti-smuggling and illegal drugs operations were honored on April 20 by the Police Regional Office – Negros Island Region, as they were conferred with medals in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments.

PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR regional director, led the awarding of medals to the outstanding police personnel during the traditional flag raising ceremony held at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City.

Recipients of the Medalya ng Kagalingan were PLt. Col. Lawrence Gerald Bathan, PEMS Jonathan Vallo, PLt. Col. Alvin Christopher Baybayan, PMSg Alfie Barnuevo, PLt. Richard Legada, PCpl Arnel Legaspi, PMSg Rey Anthony Bañga, and PSSg Ryan Mesobre.

On the other hand, PCpt Peter John Ramos, PEMS Arnold Buenafe and Raymond Bandojo, as well as PSSg Ronaldo Decatoria were conferred with the Medalya ng Papuri.

In a statement, regional police spokesperson Lt. Col. Joem Malong said the awarding ceremony highlighted the significant contributions of police personnel who demonstrated operational excellence through intelligence-driven operations, coordinated enforcement actions, and effective field deployment strategies that resulted in notable gains in the region’s anti-criminality campaign.

These accomplishments, according to Malong, include successful interceptions and voluntary surrenders of illicit cigarettes, neutralization of drug-related activities, enforcement actions leading to the successful apprehension of wanted persons.*
