Cops log zero crime incidents during Sunday’s protests

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region praised rallyists who participated in the “Trillion Peso March” and 53rd anniversary of Martial Law declaration on September 21, for the peaceful conduct of the rallies, as shown by the zero-crime incident reported in Negros Island Region.

In a statement, PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas, Ibay, PRO-NIR regional director, said that peaceful outcome was achieved through a well-executed deployment that ensured visibility and quick response, reinforced by close coordination with local government units, and partner agencies, as well as effective intelligence monitoring and situational awareness.

Stressing that public cooperation and adherence to guidelines were crucial in maintaining order, Ibay said the success of the operations highlighted the non-violent culture of Negrenses and Siquijodnons, further strengthened by sound security preparations, respect for human rights, maximum tolerance, proactive coordination, and the strong support of LGUs and communities.

About 1,879 police personnel were deployed across the region, strategically assigned to rally sites, major thoroughfares, and other critical areas to ensure maximum visibility and quick response.

Ibay thanked the rallyists for their discipline and cooperation in holding peaceful assemblies.

Their actions were instrumental in keeping the event safe and orderly, he added.*
